Basketball Recap: Slidell Wins Going Away Against French Settlement

It was a proper cat-fight when Slidell duked it out withFrench Settlement on Friday. The Slidell Tigers ended the year with a bang, routing the French Settlement Lions 63-42. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 20 points or more this season.

James Chaney was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 17 on his way to 26 points and five rebounds. Those 26 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Birdlow, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

Slidell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as French Settlement only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxson Latimer, who posted 12 points. Gabe Ellis was another key player, putting up ten points.

Slidell's victory bumped their record up to 21-5. As for French Settlement, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Slidell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-53 loss against Thibodaux on the 3rd. As for French Settlement, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 70-60 defeat against Hahnville on the 30th.
