Swain County (Bryson City, N.C.) snapped
Murphy (N.C.)'s 9-game winning streak, with a 21-7 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Ray Smith touchdown run in the first quarter, the Maroon Devils led 14-0 at the half.
Swain County expanded its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. SC's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown pass by Smith to
Matthew Maennle.
With the win the Bryson City school extended its winning streak to 11 games. The Maroon Devils defeated the Tigers 55-7 last week.
Chris Tamowski made a difference for the Bulldogs. The senior kicked one extra point.
Smith stood out for Swain County in the win. He threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Murphy's lone touchdown came on a 15-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
SC had given up an average of 11.0 points prior to the contest.
The Maroon Devils also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 28-0.
The loss comes after Murphy defeated Hayesville 55-0 last week.
