The Evangel Christian Academy Eagles will take on the Liberty Magnet Patriots at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Evangel Christian Academy sitting on three straight victories and Liberty Magnet on ten.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Evangel Christian Academy beat Huntington 58-52.
Meanwhile, Liberty Magnet faced Ponchatoula in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Liberty Magnet strolled past Ponchatoula with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 66-49.
Howard Gaskins Jr. and Jaylen Peters were among the main playmakers for Liberty Magnet as the former scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Peters has scored all season. Malek Robinson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Evangel Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Liberty Magnet, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2.
Things could have been worse for Evangel Christian Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 51-34 loss to Liberty Magnet in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Evangel Christian Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
