The Centennial Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Sebring Blue Streaks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Centennial played in-conference for the first time on Wednesday and got just the result they were looking for. Everything went their way against Treasure Coast as they made off with a 9-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Nate Sangiuolo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Centennial let Marcos Bencosme and Alfonso Hernandez run wild. Bencosme got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Hernandez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. What's more, Hernandez posted two hits, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Darren Ochoa, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Sebring narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Hardee 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Streaks have posted against the Wildcats since February 28, 2023.
Maclyn Wohl made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wohl was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tripp Handley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Sebring lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Centennial's record now sits at 4-8-1. As for Sebring, their record is now 11-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Centennial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sebring struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
