The JW North Huskies will challenge the Hillcrest Trojans at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. JW North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
JW North is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Arlington just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 9-3 to the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Huskies have suffered since March 20, 2024.
Audrina Camacho made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Angelina Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Vista del Lago as they made off with an 18-0 victory. Considering the Trojans have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashley James tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Melody Acevedo, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Kline, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
Hillcrest lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are 9-2 when they post two or more home runs.
Hillcrest is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for JW North, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. JW North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Hillcrest struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
JW North skirted past Hillcrest 4-3 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
