Basketball Recap: Winston Triumphs

Winston posted their closest win since February 7, 2025 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 victory over the Hardin-Central Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Red Birds, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sam Barnett and Brody Fifer certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Barnett dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards, while Fifer went 7-for-15 on his way to 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Barnett is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Collin Lyon, who posted ten points and four steals.

The win made it two in a row for Winston and bumps their season record up to 3-7. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. As for Hardin-Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winston will head out to take on DeKalb at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hardin-Central, they will venture away from home to face off against Tina-Avalon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
