Basketball Recap: Cody Lovelace Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

Westlake Christian Academy won the last time they faced State Line Christian and things went their way on Saturday too. The Westlake Christian Academy Eagles came out on top against the State Line Christian Patriots by a score of 56-46.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westlake Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cody Lovelace, who went 8 of 14 en route to 19 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Lovelace a new career-high in points. Caleb Nieze was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Westlake Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as State Line Christian only posted two assists.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Preston Roque, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Rains, who had four points and eight boards.

Westlake Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for State Line Christian, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.

Westlake Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-40 defeat against Heritage Christian on the 18th. As for State Line Christian, they will be playing at home against Monclova Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monclova Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully State Line Christian likes a good challenge.
