After a string of eight wins, the Madison Warhawks's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 51-23 loss at the hands of Maranatha. The low total for Madison ended their streak of high-flying scores.
Madison's loss came despite strong showings from Caleb Gleason and Eli Stevens. Gleason scored eight points, while Stevens scored 12 points. Stevens scored a full 52.2% of Madison's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Madison struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Maranatha to victory were Chris Smith and Trevor Cohen. Smith scored eight points along with six assists and six steals, while Cohen scored 14 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Cohen grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zain Mahmood, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Maranatha, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Madison and Chaparral will face off at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Chaparral is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Maranatha and Alemany will face off at 4:00 p.m. on December 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Alemany will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
