If the Timnath Cubs were feeling good off their 53-16 takedown of the Brush Beetdiggers last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Timnath was beaten by Highland 78-42 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Timnath can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Highland is ranked 68th).
Despite the loss, Timnath saw an underclassman step up: Max Roselle scored ten points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Carter Gaines was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Highland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sawyer Morgan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Morgan hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Carson Steinke, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Timnath's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Highland, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
Timnath will be playing in front of their home fans against Strasburg at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Strasburg's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to square off against Brush at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Brush: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Highland has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
