Monticello hasn't had much luck against Goshen Central recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will face off against the Gladiators at 4:15 p.m. Monticello has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monticello is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Washingtonville, falling 16-4.
Monticello saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexandra Cushing, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Goshen Central got the win against Roosevelt on Saturday by a conclusive 14-2. The Gladiators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.
Addison Freiberger was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Freiberger was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Mia Antolino and Sophia Springer did most of the damage at the plate: Antolino went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Springer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Springer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Gomulka, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Goshen Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Goshen Central, their record now sits at 7-2.
Monticello suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Goshen Central in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
