The Fort Hancock Mustangs were the 62-43 winner over the McCamey Badgers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Fort Hancock was the victim of a rough 66-46 defeat at the hands of McCamey on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that Fort Hancock has lost by exactly 20 points.
Despite the defeat, Fort Hancock had strong showings from Patrick Hernandez, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds, and Emmanuel Herrera, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season.
Leading McCamey to victory were Edgar Quinonez and Landyn Urias. Quinonez almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, while Urias dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Urias is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Armando Ramirez, who scored 11 points.
McCamey used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Fort Hancock. Three players got more time on the court than they're used to: Pablo Baiza (21), Wesley Mills (25), and Donovin Young (seven). The trio had averaged 10.65, 11.65, and 3.38 minutes respectively before Tuesday's game. Mills made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points along with six rebounds and two steals. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Fort Hancock's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-13. As for McCamey, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Fort Hancock will look to defend their home court on Friday against El Paso HomeSchool at 5:00 p.m. El Paso HomeSchool will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Fort Hancock surely won't give up without a fight. As for McCamey, they will head out on the road to face off against Anthony at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully McCamey focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
