The Strom Thurmond Rebels waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They strolled past Pelion with points to spare, taking the game 61-45. Given Strom Thurmond's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Pelion is ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Strom Thurmond to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darrian Hendrix, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Hendrix has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Roosevelt Walker, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Pelion lost, one person who can't be blamed is Noah Pegues. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kolton Rogers, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Strom Thurmond's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Pelion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Strom Thurmond will look to defend their home court on Friday against Silver Bluff at 7:45 p.m. One thing working in Silver Bluff's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests. As for Pelion, they will head out on the road to challenge Batesburg-Leesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Batesburg-Leesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
