Even though the Portsmouth Trojans have not done well against the Ironton Fighting Tigers recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Portsmouth claimed a resounding 67-37 victory over Ironton on the road. That looming 67-37 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Portsmouth yet this season.
Deandre Berry continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Donnovan Breech was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Ironton saw an underclassman step up: Ashton Layne scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaun Terry, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Portsmouth's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Ironton, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Portsmouth will look to defend their home court on Friday against South Point at 7:30 p.m. As for Ironton, they will head out on the road to face off against Gallia Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gallia Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 526th, while Ironton is ranked 178th).
