The Melrose Golden Wildcats had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 1.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They had just enough and edged Kirby out 69-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Devin Sanders Jr, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. The contest was his 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sadat Muhammad, who scored 17 points along with five steals.
Melrose has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Kirby, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Power Center Academy the next time they take the court. Kirby will head out to face Power Center Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Melrose will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
