Elias Navarro Turns in Season-Best Effort
On Thursday, Schurr got the W thanks in part to Elias Navarro playing the best football he has all season. Navarro rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. He's now once again averaging 100+ rushing yards (105) per game. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards.
If the past is any indication, Navarro could be in store for another big game when he takes on Montebello on Friday. Navarro rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 49 receiving yards the last time he and the Oilers duked it out back in October of 2023.

Another Game with at Least Six Total Tackles from Matthew Cortez
Sadly, Matthew Cortez posting his best game of the season wasn't enough to lead Montebello over Bell Gardens on Friday. Cortez wasn't messing around, picking up two sacks, forcing a fumble, and making nine total tackles. The matchup was his eighth straight with six or more total tackles dating back to last season. Montebello is 2-1 when Cortez posts two or more sacks, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the year, Cortez has averaged 8.4 total tackles per game and for the season has 4 sacks. He is looking even better than he did last year: after eight games last season, he had one sack.

Daniel Tovar Delivers Electric Effort Vs Montebello
Daniel Tovar put up the most rushing yards he's had since back in September of 2023 on Friday. He rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
If history really does repeat itself, Tovar might just drop another big game when he faces off against Mark Keppel on Friday. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Tovar saw the Aztecs), he rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
