Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Virginia Episcopal School's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Highland, Virginia Episcopal School was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Fishburne Military Caissons as they made off with an 18-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bishops, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jaxon Godsie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nate Gobble, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Virginia Episcopal School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Virginia Episcopal School has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fishburne Military, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Virginia Episcopal School will welcome North Cross at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Bishops surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fishburne Military, they will take on Eastern Mennonite at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
