Hampden and Bangor are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Broncos will head out on the road to face off against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Hampden will bounce into Friday's game after beating Skowhegan, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Broncos won by a run and slipped past the River Hawks 3-2.
Cat Facchini spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Hampden saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lolah Cowing, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Bangor hadn't done well against Messalonskee recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Rams skirted past the Eagles 3-1.
Bangor also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Emma Tripp gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abby Folsom, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
Hampden's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bangor, their record is now 8-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hampden has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bangor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts.
