Hartington-Newcastle has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Wausa Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hartington-Newcastle will be strutting in after a win while the Vikings will be coming in after a loss.
Hartington-Newcastle scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Homer 59-17 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 26-3.
Brayden Lammers and Riley Sudbeck were among the main playmakers for Hartington-Newcastle as the former scored 15 points and the latter scored 19 points. Sudbeck has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Rosener, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Wausa came up short against the Bees on Saturday and fell 49-37.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brady Bloomquist, who scored nine points.
Hartington-Newcastle has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for Wausa, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Hartington-Newcastle came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 42-40. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wausa's Jaxon Claussen, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Hartington-Newcastle to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
