It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Whitman Vikings ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Landon 70-67. The win was all the more spectacular given Whitman's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Landon is ranked 15th).
Whitman was led to victory by Hayden Walsh and Thomas Farrell. Walsh scored 21 points, while Farrell scored 27 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Farrell's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Titian DeRosa was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine assists.
The win was the fifth in a row for Whitman, bringing their record for this year to 5-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.4 points per game. As for Landon, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitman will face off against Churchill at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Churchill and Whitman are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Landon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Andrew's Episcopal at 3:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
