Burges is 9-1 against Andress since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Burges is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Burges took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against Canutillo, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Eagles on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since February 21, 2025.
Antonella Ulloa was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Valeria Sanchez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Burges kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Andress was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 11-5 to El Paso.
Peyton Eissens put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off six hits. Eissens was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Angela Leyva was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jazlynn Rodriguez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Burges pushed their record up to 16-12 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Andress, their loss dropped their record down to 11-14.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burges hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .399. However, it's not like Andress struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burges got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Andress by a conclusive 14-2 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
