The Kamiak Knights will take on the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Kamiak has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Kamiak came out on top against Glacier Peak by a score of 2-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Synclair Mawudeku spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Stansfield, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Edmonds-Woodway entered their tilt with Lynnwood on Wednesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 19-7 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.
Edmonds-Woodway got a massive performance out of Abby McCorvey, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave McCorvey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abby Tracy, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Edmonds-Woodway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Kamiak is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Edmonds-Woodway, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kamiak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Edmonds-Woodway struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Kamiak took their win against Edmonds-Woodway in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
