The Tempe Prep Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Augustine Catholic. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Monday (55), Tempe Prep still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Tempe Prep had strong showings from Chris Milner, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Austin Sampson, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Sampson posted eight or more assists. Dallin Keeler was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
St. Augustine Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andres Betancourt, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Peter Dogbegah, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Tempe Prep's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11. As for St. Augustine Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tempe Prep will take on Horizon Honors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Horizon Honors is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.1 points per game.
