On Monday, the St. Mary's Lancers faced the Starpoint Spartans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Mary's fell just short of Starpoint by a score of 58-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Lancers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emily Mcdonald, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and seven assists. Mcdonald set a new season high mark in steals with six. Another player making a difference was Jada Mushat, who scored 17 points.
St. Mary's has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season. As for Starpoint, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will take on Sacred Heart Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sacred Heart Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 166th, while St. Mary's is ranked 23rd). As for Starpoint, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Williamsville East at 7:00 p.m.
