After flying high against the Bayfield Wolverines on Friday, the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers came back down to earth. Montezuma-Cortez fell 50-39 to Alamosa on Saturday. Montezuma-Cortez lost against Alamosa in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 64-23 score last time.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Whited, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Markylla Jones, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Alamosa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Morgan Ortega, who scored 14 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelin Garcia, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Montezuma-Cortez's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Alamosa, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.
Montezuma-Cortez and Centauri will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Centauri focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. As for Alamosa, Alamosa and Pagosa Springs will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
