The Covina Colts will venture away from home to square off against the Santa Fe Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Covina is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Northview just ended the team's three-game winning streak two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 49-21 loss at the hands of the Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Colts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 324th, while the Vikings are ranked 95th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Matthew Olivas Jr, who picked up 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Covina also got a significant boost from Kwame Parrish, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 92 yards.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe entered their tilt with Montebello on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Oilers a 24-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won four games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Santa Fe can attribute much of their success to Sebastian Macias, who gained 152 total yards and two touchdowns, and Devin Clark, who rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Clark's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Covina fell to 3-1. As for Santa Fe, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
