A feisty cat fight will be fought as Borah Lions face off against Caldwell Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Borah is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Borah is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since May 17, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Parma, sneaking past 7-5.
Justice Pruitt made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Pruitt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kayla Campbell was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alice Brown, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Caldwell hadn't done well against Vallivue recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Caldwell walked away with a 6-2 victory over Vallivue.
The team relied heavily on Kloe Fogle, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Liliana Hernandez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Caldwell's win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-3. As for Borah, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Borah hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Caldwell struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Borah suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Caldwell in their previous matchup on March 12th. Will Borah have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
