The Stall Warriors will take on the James Island Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with 14 defeats in a row, Stall turned things around against North Charleston on Tuesday. They blew past the Cougars 16-1. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Lance Janicki and Tyler Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Janicki pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Jones pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Janicki got on base in two of his three plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs, while Jones got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those runs were Jones' first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Ashley, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Dominic Stewart, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Stall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, James Island had already won 15 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 16 on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Trojans have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
James Island pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Stall, their victory bumped their record up to 3-14.
Stall might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from James Island when the teams last played on Monday. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
