Tulare Union and Mission Oak are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tribe will take on the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tulare Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Tulare Union lost 13-5 to Hanford on Friday. The Tribe have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
KaiLee Gilbert was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Jimenez, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Mission Oak waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Maleena Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits. Martin was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Taylor Shepherd was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Mya Ortega, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mission Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Mission Oak's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tulare Union, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12.
Tulare Union couldn't quite get it done against Mission Oak in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 5-2. Can the Tribe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
