Sloan-Hendrix hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Greyhounds will be playing at home against the Rebels at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Sloan-Hendrix took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Cedar Ridge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Greyhounds won by a run and slipped past the Timberwolves 4-3. The game was the first time the Greyhounds have beaten the Timberwolves on their field since April 3, 2023.
Hudson Rorex spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eli Cooper was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, while Highland put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Manila. The Rebels put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 6-0 victory. Considering the Rebels have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Trace Hyslip made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Hyslip was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zeke Varela, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Mason Sinclair was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Highland is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Sloan-Hendrix, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Sloan-Hendrix couldn't quite get it done against Highland when the teams last played back in March of 2025 as they fell 8-4. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
