Baseball Recap: Yulee Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Glynn Academy, Yulee was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They never let the Westside Wolverines get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Braden Valenteen and Alex Davis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Valenteen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Davis tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Valenteen scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Davis scored a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Jared Malphrus was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Nichols, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Yulee is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Westside, they dropped their record down to 0-19 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Yulee and Westside are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Hornets will face off against Parker at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Yulee's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Westside, they will take on Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
