The Grand County Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the North Summit Braves at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Grand County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Grand County got the win against Rowland Hall by a conclusive 16-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.
CHLOE Byrd was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Danica Hirschfeld was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Grand County lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, North Summit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 19-4 to North Sevier. That's two games in a row now that the Braves have lost by exactly 15 runs.
SAVANNAH WINDHORST made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
North Summit's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Grand County, their record is now 12-7.
North Summit's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grand County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for North Summit, though, as they've been averaging 10.6 hits. Given Grand County's sizable advantage in that area, the Braves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Grand County took their victory against North Summit in their previous meeting back in April of 2017 by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
