Given Archbishop Ryan's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic is ranked 74th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Archbishop Ryan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Sorber, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sorber has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 19 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Murray, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though St. Joseph's Prep scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Roman Catholic still came out on top. Roman Catholic walked away with a 67-57 win over St. Joseph's Prep.
Archbishop Ryan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Roman Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 20-1.
Archbishop Ryan came up short against Roman Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 57-48. Can Archbishop Ryan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
