Softball Recap: Dakota's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Dakota dropped their record down to 17-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They fell just short of Winnebago by a score of 6-5. Dakota was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Winnebago apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Winnebago, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-13. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch.

For Winnebago's part, Sammi Falnes was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Falnes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mackenize Makosh, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dakota will welcome Orangeville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Winnebago, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Rock Falls at 4:30 p.m. The Rockets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.6 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
