The Woodsboro Eagles lost against the Taft Greyhounds back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Woodsboro was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to Taft. It was the first time this season that Woodsboro let down their fans at home.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Garcia, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Zena, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Jordan Villalobos, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds for Taft. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Villalobos has scored at least 25% of Taft's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gilbert Hinojosa, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Woodsboro has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Taft, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodsboro will be home for the holidays to greet Kenedy at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Kenedy is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. Taft will be home for the holidays to greet Varsity Opponent at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Varsity Opponent has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
