Mission Valley recap Oct. 9, 2012
Rosemead was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in Mission Valley. The Panthers beat South El Monte 21-16 earlier in the week.
Gabrielino extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mountain View, 24-7. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
El Monte's dynamic duo of Brandon Martinez and Abel Barrajas proved tough for Arroyo to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Martinez threw for 386 yards and six touchdowns and Barrajas had 150 yards receiving. Josh Morales helped El Monte's passing attack out by catching five balls for 98 yards.
Alec Zavala was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 72 yards as Rosemead defeated the Knights. Everardo Camacho also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.
El Monte's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Lions feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Martinez has thrown for 2265 yards and 22 touchdowns this season, while Adolfo Sanchez has 33 catches for 682 yards. Bryan Luevano leads the league in rushing with 610 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Marc Paramo's team takes on El Monte. At the moment, the Panthers are in third, while Joel Sanchez's team is in second.
The Lions moved up to 422 from 463 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. El Monte was able to make the jump by beating Arroyo 38-21.
