Roosevelt is 1-7 against Thompson Valley since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Roughriders will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Roosevelt came out on top against Timnath on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Roughriders put the hurt on the Cubs with a sharp 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Roughriders, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Mason Sauer was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Luke Unruh was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Roosevelt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timnath only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Thompson Valley posted their closest victory since March 6th on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Mountain View.
Evan Raabe made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Raabe was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Beau Heaton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Landon Carrol, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Roosevelt pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Thompson Valley, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Roosevelt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Thompson Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Roosevelt came out on top in a nail-biter against Thompson Valley in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Roughriders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
