The Mira Mesa Marauders are taking a road trip to take on the University City Centurions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mira Mesa will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Mira Mesa had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Clairemont on Thursday. The Marauders were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Chieftains.
Brooklyn Haug made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Aria Phruksukarn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Bailey McBride was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mira Mesa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, University City was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They fell just short of Scripps Ranch by a score of 3-2. The Centurions haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Aliyah Padilla was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, University City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Weathers, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.
The victory got Mira Mesa back to even at 11-11. As for University City, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14-1.
Mira Mesa beat University City 5-1 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Marauders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
