Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Big Spring). They blew past the West Perry Mustangs 20-2 on Thursday. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Rilee Stewart made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI.
In other batting news, Kendall Boring-Gutshall was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Davina Raudabaugh was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Big Spring always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Perry only posted an OBP of .286.
Big Spring has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for West Perry, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Big Spring will host Waynesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Indians have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for West Perry, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Shippensburg at 4:00 p.m.
