Taryn Close made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allyson Selby, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Olivia Butler was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Berkeley Springs lost 10-1 to Grafton on Saturday.
Berkeley Springs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layla Parsell, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Spring Mills' victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Berkeley Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Berkeley Springs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Spring Mills has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Berkeley Springs, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Spring Mills' sizable advantage in that area, Berkeley Springs will need to find a way to close that gap.
