Basketball Recap: Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They came out on top against the Chamberlain Cubs by a score of 53-42 on Saturday. For the Braves, this counts as revenge for the 46-26 win the Cubs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte was led to victory by Dakotta Longbrake and Suni Bowman. Longbrake went 6 of 13 on her way to 19 points along with seven boards and seven steals, while Bowman dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Bowman's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracelynn Laundreaux, who posted three points and six steals.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5. As for Chamberlain, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte will welcome McLaughlin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. McLaughlin will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Cheyenne-Eagle Butte surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chamberlain, they will head out to face off against Wall at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
