The Roswell Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Gainesville Red Elephants at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Roswell's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-0 win over Lanier. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Longhorns are ranked 101st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Trey Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 182 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 162 yards and three TDs. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Wills Campbell was in the mix as well, providing Roswell with two scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roswell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 372 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Roswell's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Brody Duffy, Christian English, and Alex Lucas, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Lanier's side was Duffy, who picked up a sack and made 14 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Gainesville humbled Chattahoochee with a 55-3 victory. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Red Elephants had established a 48-point advantage.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to NIGEL NEWKIRK and DWIGHT LEWIS. NEWKIRK rushed for 103 yards and three TDs on only six carries while LEWIS rushed for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. NEWKIRK's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 103 rushing yards. KHARIM HUGHLEY was another key player, throwing for 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Roswell's record is now 7-1. As for Gainesville, their record now sits at 8-1.
Roswell came out on top in a nail-biter against Gainesville when the teams last played back in October of 2024, sneaking past 48-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
