A feisty cat fight will be fought as Ludlow Panthers challenge Calvary Christian Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Calvary Christian will be up against a hot Ludlow team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Ludlow never let Dayton get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday.
Parker Trenkamp made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Trenkamp was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Jackson Mays and Chris Perkins did most of the damage at the plate: Mays scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Perkins scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Deakon Reed, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Ludlow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dayton only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calvary Christian). They blew past Robertson County 15-0 on Saturday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Black Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Ludlow, Calvary Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Luke Corbin. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave Corbin a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Calvary Christian let Josh Ruwe and Finn Zachary run wild. Ruwe scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Zachary went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Zachary a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Case Craddock, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Ludlow's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Calvary Christian, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Calvary Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ludlow has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .533. It's a different story for Calvary Christian, though, as they've only averaged .359. Will they be able to contain Ludlow's hitters?
Ludlow skirted past Calvary Christian 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Ludlow have another victory up their sleeve, or will Calvary Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
