Granville Christian Academy will face off against the Shekinah Christian Flames at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Granville Christian Academy 2.9, Shekinah Christian 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Granville Christian Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Tree of Life Christian on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. Bentley Johnson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Jordan Stump made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Josiah Green was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Shekinah Christian came tearing into Wednesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Eagles.
Max Kilzer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Camden Miller was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Shekinah Christian pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Granville Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Granville Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Shekinah Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
