The Giltner Hornets will challenge the Gibbon Buffaloes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Giltner has now lost 13 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 5.
Giltner came up short against Twin River on Thursday, falling 52-27.
Despite the defeat, Giltner had strong showings from Avery Reeson, who posted 13 points and three steals, and Peyton Schutt, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 20 rebounds. That was a full 48.1% of Giltner's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Gibbon came into Monday's matchup having lost 21 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Harvard 58-26 on Monday. The Buffaloes' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Gibbon's win came from a few key players Giltner will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Claire Clark, who put up 11 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Those six assists gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Sell, who went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds.
Gibbon was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Giltner's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Gibbon, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-15.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Giltner has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Gibbon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Giltner lost to Gibbon on the road by a decisive 43-28 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Giltner avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
