The El Capitan/Centennial Academy will take on the Salome Frogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, El Capitan/Centennial Academy faced Valley Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams. El Capitan/Centennial Academy took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 60-16 win over Valley Union. Winning may never get old, but El Capitan/Centennial Academy sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy can attribute much of their success to Zedakye White, who threw for 167 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 passes, and Denim White, who gained 137 total yards and four touchdowns. Jay Timpson and his 80 yards on the ground were also a key factor in El Capitan/Centennial Academy's victory.
Meanwhile, Salome blew past Anthem Prep, posting a 50-8 win at home. That's two games straight that Salome has won by exactly 42 points.
Salome got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Edgar Gamez out in front who rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Jibran Castillo, who rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
El Capitan/Centennial Academy's win was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Tempe Prep and 0-7 Mayer (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36% over those games). As for Salome, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
