The Cypress Centurions will face off against the Pacifica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Cypress' victory against Kennedy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Centurions skirted past the Fighting Irish 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Centurions in their matchups with the Fighting Irish: they've now won nine in a row.
Chach Stamper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tia Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Pacifica made sure to put some runs up on the board against El Modena on Friday. The Mariners had just enough and edged out the Vanguards 10-8. The game was the first time the Mariners have beaten the Vanguards on their field since March 24, 2023.
Leyla Ayres was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jenna Valladares, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Pacifica's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Cypress, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cypress hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Pacifica struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
