Basketball Game Preview: Beloit Trojans vs. Lyons Lions

After both having extra time off, the Beloit Trojans and the Lyons Lions will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Lyons is hoping to do what Ellsworth couldn't last Friday: put an end to Beloit's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Beloit claimed a resounding 71-39 victory over Ellsworth. The contest marked the Trojans' most dominant win of the season so far.

Eli Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 12 for 13 on his way to 26 points and eight rebounds. His evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Cheney, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Beloit was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Lyons came up short against Sacred Heart last Friday and fell 70-57.

Beloit will need focus on slowing down Ethan Luck, one of several Lyons players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7 of 13 on his way to 22 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Solis, who posted 13 points along with five boards and five blocks.

Lyons' loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Beloit, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Beloit has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Lyons struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for Beloit against Lyons when the teams last played back in January of 2015, as the team secured a 66-31 victory. Will Beloit repeat their success, or does Lyons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
