The Doherty Spartans waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 61-49 win over Pine Creek. That's another feather in the cap for Doherty, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Doherty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Mack, who scored 14 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Mack is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. James Pulliam was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Pine Creek lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braydan Bowling, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Paul Grier, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Doherty pushed their record up to 11-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Pine Creek, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Doherty will take on the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Spartans are ranked 25th). As for Pine Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Fountain-Fort Carson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
