Linn is 1-9 against Eugene since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wildcats will take on the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Linn barely beat Richland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bears on Saturday. The Wildcats not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2025 (when they won 10-0).
Gus Peters was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Carson Kempker, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Eugene posted their closest win since May 2, 2025 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out California 7-6.
Jeffrey Schulte made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Schulte was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Schulte is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Kempker, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Eugene pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Linn, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Linn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eugene struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Linn suffered a grim 19-9 defeat to Eugene when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
