The Lewis-Palmer Rangers will venture away from home to square off against the Highlands Ranch Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lewis-Palmer has seven straight victories, Highlands Ranch has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Lewis-Palmer sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Douglas County.
JW Babbitt looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Lewis-Palmer's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Morgan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Morgan brought in this season. Another was Garrett Hennis, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Highlands Ranch didn't have quite enough to beat Poudre on Saturday and fell 9-8.
Ayden Wells and Zach Benner stepped up to the plate in a big way. Wells scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Benner scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Crew Gerig was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Lewis-Palmer's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Highlands Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Lewis-Palmer's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Rangers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Highlands Ranch, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lewis-Palmer continue to outrun the ball? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
